Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr.!

We have had a crazy, busy, but all together fun week in Room 26!  It has been crazy because of the weather - lots of indoor recess and even a no school day - I hope everyone enjoyed a little extra unplanned family time!  I know that I sure did!  It has been busy because we were trying to get all of our work done in a four day week instead of a five day week, and it was fun because...well, we just are a fun class!  What can I say?!  Here are some highlights of our week...
Reading:  We read a rather difficult story called From Seed to Plant.  It was a nonfiction expository (ask your child what that means!) and we learned some difficult vocab words such as germination and pollination.  We took our comprehension test on Friday - and most kids did really well!
Writing:  We started a paragraph paper on what our favorite winter time activity is.  We will be continuing that paper next week as well.  We also received our first pen pal letter from our friends in North Carolina!  That was definitely a highlight of our week!
Math:  We finished our unit on money and time.  Only one student got 100%, but most did very well...I encourage you to continue practicing these skills at home!  We will be starting our unit on symmetry and graphing next week.
Science:  We finished up our unit on Solids, Liquids and Gases and will be starting up with social studies next week.
Social Studies:  We spent a lot of this week learning about Martin Luther King Jr., and we will begin our study on Africa next week - thus this new, spiffy zebra background!
Art:  We created a wonderful snow globe in art this week - complete with glitter!  They will be hanging in our hallways for all to see for the next couple of weeks.

Don't forget that the last day to order book orders online for January will be January 14th - I will be closing out the order on the 17th.

Also, I still have a handful of students who have not turned in their December homework...please bring that to school on Tuesday!

****   Request - We are collecting clean plastic gallon milk/water containers for a Valentine's Day project. Each student will need one by the end of January. If you have more than one, then we would appreciate having an extra for those without.

WHEW!  That was a lot!  I will sign off now by saying.....

GO SEAHAWKS!!!
