I want to thank all the families that were able to come in on Friday to celebrate our African safari! It was a great turnout and I think that the students were very excited to show off their work!
Can you believe that this next week will be the first of March?! My goodness! This week coming back after break will be a little bit crazy...we have a lot going on. Let me fill you in...
Monday should be a pretty normal day - getting back into the routine and sharing stories from break! Tuesday, however, we are going to have an assembly in the morning introducing Swil Kanim, who is an artist in residence. He is a wonderful story teller and musician, so the kids should really enjoy him! Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday! The kids will be invited to dress wacky - and in our classroom, we will be reading or being read to most of the day! (so much for routine!) On Thursday, we will be doing an activity with Swil Kanim during our writing time, and we will be creating African masks to finish off our African unit! Friday should be a typical day...hopefully! It should be a very fun, although busy, week! I am looking forward to seeing your children again...after a week, I do, truly miss them! I hope that everyone is enjoying their time off and having some great quality family time!
The secret to being a great student is believing you already are one!

Happy Valentine's Day...REVISION...check the time change for the African party!
We have had an exciting week with all kinds of activities going on! We are right in the middle of our Africa unit - we have our setting and animals done on our frieze and they look amazing! Next week we will be starting our study on the people and the village.
Next Friday, the 18th of February, you are all invited to participate in our African celebration! It will be a chance for parents to come in and check out all your childs work that they have done for this unit! It is a wonderful chance for your child to "show off" their creativity and hard work! We will begin our celebration at 12:25 and go until the end of the day at 12:55. I hope you can all make it!
Also, we will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Monday, Feb. 14th! We will be passing out Valentine's, opening our Valentine's, and playing games from 10:15 - 11:15...it should be a very fun day! If your child would like to bring Valentine's for his/her classmates, there is a class list on our blog, and I sent home a hard copy with your child today.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Looking forward to next week!

HAPPY FEBRUARY!
It has been a much better week! We weren't quite "strike-free", but it was very close! We have been having such a great time learning about Kenya and creating our frieze! We have finished our setting this week - we have sky, dirt roads (with real dirt on them!), rivers, grasslands, trees and bushes and cliffs (with real rocks!). It looks fantastic! Next week we will be focusing on the animals we may find on the Maasai Mara game reserve! We will be creating paper animals and clay animals. We will also be doing research and writing an animal report. In writing, we will also be learning and writing different types of poetry that will focus on the African animals! Next week will be a very busy week!
We are also getting ready for Valentine's Day! I will be adding a link to our blog that will have our class list on it. If your child chooses to do Valentine's, then I will ask that all students are included! We will be getting our Valentine's pockets ready this next week using the milk jugs that were brought in. Thank you so much - we now have plenty!
Please make sure to remind your child to bring in January's homework! I am still missing quite a few!
I hope you all have a great weekend...enjoy the Super Bowl!
