It has been wonderful to see the sunshine this week! It makes such a difference in our attitudes - we are all smiling and sunny!
It has been a great week! We have been working really hard on double digit addition and subtraction. This is a tricky thing when we have to regroup (borrow and carry)!
We have also started our Social Studies unit on goods and services. We have been learning about what goods are (ask your child) and how goods get from one place to another. We will start talking about services next week.
ASB had a meeting this week, and all the classes are collecting money (change) for World Vision. This money will go to Japan to help out the children in need there due to the earthquake and tsunami.
I am looking forward to our Art/Science/Spelling Bee night tonight! It sounds like there will be a lot of "scientists" there, and I can't wait to see what they are going to teach me! And good luck to Brooke and Lexi in the Spelling Bee...I will be there to root them on!
UPCOMING EVENTS IN APRIL:
April 1st - Spirit Day - wear your baseball attire (hats only allowed at recess)
April 4th - 11th Spring Break - no school
April 26th - Walk-a-thon
I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend!
The secret to being a great student is believing you already are one!

Happy Tuesday!
Hey there! It is good to back! I took a short trip to Arizona to check on our Seattle Mariners. They look like they are going to have an alright season this year. It was nice to be in the sun, watching baseball...one of my favorite things to do! I tried to bring some sunshine home with me to share...hopefully Spring is here!
The kids did amazing while I was gone! I received so many compliments about how well behaved they were Thursday night for their concert! I am very proud of them!
This week we are starting a new story in Reading - it is called Cool Ali. We will be learning some new vocabulary words, comparing and contrasting, and learning more about inferring. In Writing we are going to be working on our second grade scrapbooks. In Math we are still focusing on double digit addition and subtraction. In Social Studies we have started learning about goods and services and where things come from.
I will be sending home book orders on Friday - please order online by March 28th.
I hope everyone enjoys their week!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day...almost!
What a great week we had! It was nice to be back and see the kiddos - I miss them when I'm gone! Mrs. Murray did a great job subbing for me, because the kids told me she was "just like you, Mrs. Smith". That's a good thing! : D
We wrapped up Africa this week with the students writing a book comparing the Maasai Mara tribe with themselves. It was a good little assessment to see what the students learned...they all did a great job!
We also had quite a few assessments in Math and Reading, as I am preparing to do report cards this weekend!
It is really rewarding to see how much improvement there has been since the beginning of the year! It is exciting to see the difference between September and March! Wow! Report cards will go home with your child on Friday, March 18th.
The kids are very excited for their concert on Thursday...they have been practicing and practicing! They will continue to have practices this coming week as well!
The last thing I wanted to remind you of...this Tuesday, March 15th is class picture day! I thought it would be kind of fun if we all dressed in Mariner's t-shirts, or sweatshirts, or if your child doesn't have a Mariner's shirt, then they can just wear blue or green. Baseball season is right around the corner!
I hope you all enjoy a restful weekend (remember it is daylight savings on Sunday - spring ahead!) and may the luck of the Irish be with you this week!
