Happy Memorial Day!

Can you believe it is already the end of May?!  I am so shocked by how fast this year has gone by!  We are right in the middle of our ABC countdown and having a great time!  This week we have enjoyed making colorful butterfly hats to wear when we release our butterflies next week.  We also had a great time interviewing second graders from other classes to see what their favorite things are.  Wednesday was joke day, and in case you didn't know, your kids are hilarious!  They are fabulous joke tellers - even when they make up their own jokes!  Thursday we made kindness bags and shared with our classmates reasons why we like them...what a great ego booster!  And today we are reading, because we all LOVE to read!  We have been reading to self, reading with buddies, and listening to our book on tape.  It has been a great week!

Next week we will be watching Mary Poppins - I know it says that it is supposed to be educational, but I have checked with my class, and over two-thirds have never seen that movie!  Since it is one of my very favorites, I thought I would share it with them!

We will also be letting our butterflies go next week - probably on Wednesday if the weather cooperates!  We will be releasing them at the end of the day, so if you would like to come and watch, you are invited, and it is really something to see!

On Friday, we are having PIZZA!  We will be eating our lunch out on the blacktop - so hoping for sun that day as well!

I hope that everyone has a relaxing three day weekend - be safe and have fun!

What a fun week!

It has been a lot of fun in Room 26 this week!  We have been enjoying the fun activities that go along with the ABC countdown!  On Monday I had some baseball players, some princesses, some super heroes and some ninjas in my classroom thanks to costume day!  On Wednesday we enjoyed some long awaited for vitamin D because we had an extra recess, and on Friday we played games all day!  Whew...fun! fun! fun!

We have been learning some new math card games in our classroom, so have your child teach you how to play 99 or 31 - both are great at practicing math facts!  Another game we learned was SAM - another great game for practicing math facts!

Next week we will be working on some butterfly projects and hopefully observing the painted lady butterflies in our classroom.  We will also be working on double and triple digit addition and subtraction.   We are also writing a story about a fictitious insect that we have created from the facts that we have learned about insects.

Please make sure that your child is still reading 20 minutes a day - and keep practicing those math facts!

Have a great weekend, and enjoy the sunshine!

Happy Friday the 13th!

We have had a very busy week!  We are reviewing our school rules - mainly walking (not running) quietly in the hallway and working on being respectful of each other.  We are reaching the end of the school year, and I reminded the students that even though we are down to 24 days left, that still means almost 5 weeks of learning!

We have been learning all about the caterpillar life cycle and it was so exciting today when Max brought in his 16 butterflies to observe!  Thank you, Max, for sharing!

The ABC countdown has also started and we did a fun butterfly project on Thursday (for the letter A for art) and Friday.  They will be hanging up in our hallway next week if you get a chance to come and check them out!

Monday is costume day for the ABC countdown.  Please make sure that there are no weapons with your child's costume!  Keep it simple!

I hope that all the MOM's had a chance to come in this morning and enjoy coffee and muffins/doughnuts with their child!  It was sure fun to see such a great turn out!

Enjoy your weekend, and hopefully the sun will pop out a little!

WOW! Thank You All So Much!

What a week it has been!  Thank you so much for all of the wonderful notes, goodies and surprises all week long!  I feel so blessed by all of you - you are all so thoughtful!

It has been a good week - with lots of learning taking place.  We have learned all about nouns - ask your child how important a noun is!  We tried to write without nouns and realized how silly our paragraphs sounded without nouns.  We will be learning about verbs next week!  We have also been watching our caterpillars grow and grow and grow!  They are so much fun to observe!   In Math we have finished our fraction unit and are starting on Multiplication...yay!  The kids are so excited about that.  Next week our ABC countdown starts and don't forget that it is Morning for Mom's on Friday!

Happy Mother's Day - hope you are all as spoiled as I was this week!  Enjoy!
