Happy New Year!

Can you believe it is already 2011?!  Time is just flying by!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful, relaxing holiday break.  I know that I sure did - a lot of quality family time!  I was, however, ready to come back and see all my students!  It was fun on Monday to see all the new haircuts, and hear all the fun stories about what they did over break!  It sounds like everyone had a great time!

It has been a little challenging this week to get up on time and not be too tired by the end of the day.  It is nice to have a routine again.  We have had a great week in room 26 - busy, but not too busy!  We started the week cleaning out our desks so  that we had nice clean work stations.  Then we began a new story in our Red Reading book.  We read Johnny Appleseed, and since it was a play, we did a little Reader's Theater with it, and then on Friday went and watched Mrs. Williams class act it out.  That was fun!  We have started a new topic in math - we are working on telling time to the minute on analog clocks and counting money using the least possible amount of coins - so using the quarters every time you can!  We will be working on this topic all next week, too, so please practice these skills with your child at home as well!  We will be finishing up our Solids, Liquids and Gases science unit next week and then we will be starting to learn about Africa.  That should be a lot of fun!

I have posted our new spelling words on the blog for this next week, and I have sent home scholastic book orders.  Please place your orders online by January 16th - I will be closing out the orders on the 17th.  We will also be having our Martin Luther King Jr. assembly on Friday the 17th!

Enjoy your weekend!
