Wow! I can't believe that September is already over! The first month of school sure did fly by! We have been busy in Room 26...here are some things we have been learning:
Reading: We read Days with Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel. We learned about the things that stories always have...a beginning, middle, end, setting, characters and a plot. We also talked about looking for details in our stories. We continued to track with our fingers.
Writing: We wrote our Weekend News on Monday. The kids each wrote a Hello Goodbye poem saying Hello to Fall and Goodbye to Summer. We brainstormed as a class all the events that happen in the Fall and the events that happened in the summer. When we finished our poem, we were able to illustrate it.
Math: We are continuing with our Topic 2, which is learning different addition and subtraction strategies as well as determining whether a story problem will be addition or subtraction. We learned to look for key words such as: the total is or all together for addition and the difference, or how many more of this than that for subtraction. We will be finishing up this topic next week.
Social Studies: We started our community unit and we learned that a community is a place where people "work, live, play and solve problems". We were able to work in groups to make our own posters of our made-up community. The posters turned out fabulous, and will be on display in our hallway!
I have posted a new site under our Room 26, and that is our spelling words for this week! If your child loses his list, never fear...it is now posted on our blog! Thanks to Zach Weber for this wonderful idea!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I will blog again next week!
