This has been a crazy week full of new things!
We started this week with a new story in our Reading books called Helping Out. It was a photo essay about how kids are able to help out adults and why it is important for everybody to pitch in! We listened to a song that went along with our story called "With our Own Two Hands" by Ben Harper and Jack Johnson. We talked about how everyone working together can accomplish so much to make the world we live in a better place!
In writing we were busy writing a non-fiction adventure story about something that happened to us. We practiced adding adjectives (sparkle words) and lots and lots of details! We went through the writing process, learning how to make a web to do our prewrite, and then editing with our colored crayons. We then reread our story to find out when to add even more details, and then we wrote our final copies! It was quite a process!
In math we are learning about measuring with inches and centimeters. We are also learning different shapes. (Hexagons, Pentagons, Octogons, Trapezoids, Parallelograms, etc...) Next week we will be learning parallel lines and square corners!
Social Studies we have been learning about maps! We have discussed map grids, compass rose, symbols, map keys, etc... We will continue this unit through next week.
Thursday we had a special treat when the Snoqualmie Firefighters came to visit! They taught us all how to be prepared in case there was a fire! Ask your child what they learned! It was especially fun to watch them spray water from the fire hose! Did you know that 1,000 gallons of water come out of the hose in one minute! WOW! That is your fun fact for the day!
Enjoy your weekend!
PS...I added an additional piece of information to Class 26. You will notice a title called xtramath.org. It is a new way to practice math facts at home. We will also be doing this at school four days a week! A letter will be coming home with your child on Monday!
